Use 1 to 2 pumps (10 to 20ml) of hazelnut syrup in a regular coffee. Pump it into the cup first, pull the espresso onto it, then add the milk. Hazelnut is a strong flavour, so start with 1 pump in a flat white and 2 in a 12oz latte.
Hazelnut syrup by drink
| Drink | Pumps (10ml) | Syrup | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat white | 1 | 10ml | Less milk, so less syrup |
| Latte, 12oz | 2 | 20ml | The standard hazelnut latte |
| Iced latte, 16oz | 3 | 30ml | Cold dulls sweetness |
| Hazelnut mocha, 12oz | 1 hazelnut and 1 Solano’s Chocolate | 20ml | Split the pumps so it doesn’t go too sweet |
| Milkshake, 300ml | 3 | 30ml | Nut flavours hold up well in milk |
How to make a hazelnut latte
- Pump 2 pumps (20ml) of hazelnut syrup into a 12oz cup.
- Pull a double shot of espresso (about 60ml) straight onto the syrup.
- Stir once.
- Add about 250ml of steamed milk.
What hazelnut pairs with
Chocolate is the classic partner, which is why a hazelnut mocha works. Solano’s Caramel also sits well with it. Use 1 pump of each so the drink doesn’t turn sweet.
Hazelnut is a tree nut allergen
If you serve hazelnut drinks in a café, tell customers when a drink contains it and keep the pump separate from the other syrups. Check the label on your bottle for allergen advice.
