● Coffee syrups & café drinks

How many pumps of syrup go in a coffee?

Most coffees take 1 to 3 pumps. With Solano’s 10ml pump, that is 1 pump for a flat white or a small, 2 for a regular and 3 for a large or iced drink. One pump is 10ml, so the maths is easy.

Turning millilitres into pumps

Divide the millilitres by 10. A recipe that calls for 25ml is 2.5 pumps, so use 2 pumps and a half press. A recipe that calls for 15ml is 1.5 pumps.

Pumps from other brands are not always the same size

Pump sizes differ between brands, and many other pumps push out less than 10ml. If you are following a recipe written for another brand’s pump, convert it to millilitres first, then to Solano’s pumps.

Getting a half pump

Press the pump halfway down and let it back up. If staff find that hard to repeat, use a 5ml measuring spoon instead, so every drink matches.

Keeping drinks consistent

Put the pump counts on a card by the machine, listed by drink and size. One bottle holds about 75 pumps, so it also tells you how many drinks you get before it runs out.
